HINDU SAMSKARAS  (OR SCREMENTS.)

Samskaras purify and sanctify life by removing sin and augmenting merit.  The total number of Hindu  Samskaras is listed as FIFTY-TWO.  Out of these, TEN are obligatory for all the Hindus.

THESE ARE:

  • GARBHA DHANA----Nuptial ceremony or ritual.  

  • PUMSAVANA------- Child bearing.  

  • SEEMANTA--------- The ceremony on the 8th or 9th month of regnancy.   

  • JATAKARMA   

  • NAMAKARANAM---- Naming ceremony of the Child.  

  • ANNAPRASANA------First feeding of the Child.  

  • CHUDAKARANAMT--onsure ceremony.  

  • UPANAYANAM-------The thread ceremony.  

  • SAMAVARTANAM

  • VIVAHA---------------Marriage ceremony.  

NOTE:
However Hindu Scriptures have given even greater importance to  ATMA GUNAS, ( Character and Conduct,) than to the Samskaras.(Rituals.)
