HINDUISM---ITS NATURE AND ESSENCE.
( IDEALS REPRESENTED BY LEGENDARY CHARACTERS IN HINDUISM SCRIPTURES)

  • KUNTHI: Wished a life of unending misery   andmisfortune to keep the presence of God 
     always in her mental image. 

  • YUDHISSHTIRA: refused to enter the gates of Heaven till permission was granted to a   dog that accompanied him till the end. (Also wished the restoration of the life of his youngest stepbrother Sahadeva.)

  • KARNA: gave every thing till the last breath including the accumulated  virtues inclusive  of  his  life-long merits.   

  • HARISCHANDRA: Prepared to sacrificing his all—kingdom, family life, comforts etc to defend his pledged words. 

  • RAJA SIBI: prepared to sacrifice his very life to save the life of a bird.   

  • HANUMAN: Rejected even the precious gift of necklace offered with love by Sita as he considered nothing more precious  than the memory and name of his Lord Sri Rama. 

  • ARJUNA: Wanted only the company and personal attendance of  KRISHNA. 

  • RAMA: THE PERFECTION OF HUMAN LIFE: Endowed with all the sixteen aspects f human ideals.   

  • Hinduism is a way of Life. It is an approach, an outlook and an attitude to the problems of every day life.

  • Its origins are buried in ageless times.

  • It has neither a founder nor a book tracing its origins and prescriptions. The VEDAS are only the earliest extant works  handed over by  oral traditions and explain only the longings and the evolution of the early Aryan immigrants in to India.

  • It is characterized by its flexible approach and has room for all forms, norms and attitudes. There are references to Atheism  also  in Rig Veda.

  • Every form of worship and all religious belief systems are recognised as long as they ensure a life of MORALITY and FAITH   in a supreme POWER.
